Tanztheater night

präsentiert vom Verein für junge Tanzkunst Schweiz

TAS_2025_-42_edited.jpg

WELCOME

Tonight, we are proud to present five original dance theatre works created by emerging choreographers from Switzerland as part of the Tell A Story Mentoring Program, led by Mara Peyer and Lea Nardon.

The program was created to give young choreographers the opportunity to develop and stage their very first dance theatre production. Throughout the creative journey — from the first idea to tonight’s performance — the participants were closely guided and supported by the mentoring team.

Marco Granata supported the productions with music editing and sound dramaturgy, while Bennet Mars accompanied the choreographers in the development of the lighting design. Mara Peyer and Lea Nardon coached the participants in dramaturgy, choreography, staging, formations, and theatrical expression.

Each piece you will see tonight reflects the artistic vision and creative decisions of the choreographers themselves. It is therefore a great pleasure for us to share these works with you this evening.

We hope you enjoy an inspiring and moving night, and we are grateful to have you here as part of this important moment in the artistic journey of these young creators.

The mentoring program will continue in the years to come, with applications for the 2027 edition opening at the end of 2026. We are excited for all the future stories, ideas, and performances yet to emerge.

Laura Schenk - "Healing Path"

This dance theatre piece explores inner thoughts and the fear of not being enough. Within the chaos of one’s own emotions, closeness and comfort at first seem to be the only escape.

But what happens when fear turns into fear of loss, and even the people you love can no longer free you from it?

Caught between power, control, and vulnerability, only one path remains in the end: acceptance.

Personal Shoutout:

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who accompanied and supported me on the journey toward creating my very first dance theatre piece. A special thank you goes to my dancers for their time, patience, energy, and for bringing this piece to life together with me.

I would also like to sincerely thank Lea Nardon and Mara Peyer for creating this platform and opportunity, and for guiding us throughout the entire process. Thank you for your support, inspiration, and trust in my artistic journey.

Finally, I would like to thank Rahel Hodel from The Art of Generations for providing the dance studios.

Mirto Salati - "Family"

This dance theatre piece explores emotional distance within the family and the resulting desire for separation and independence. Family closeness is experienced as intense and overwhelming, accompanied by a growing sense of discomfort. Step by step, the emotional pressure builds until the accumulated feelings finally erupt without restraint.

What remains after this outburst is a sense of numbness — a state of simply functioning, where emotions become difficult to access or feel. In contrast, encounters with friends reveal a different kind of closeness: a space filled with warmth, vitality, and genuine connection, where intimacy feels effortless and free.

Yet with the return to the family environment, the desire for distance resurfaces. The inner resistance remains, while unspoken tension continues to linger in the room.

Is reconciliation still possible?

Personal Shoutout:

I would like to express my deepest gratitude to my dancers. They not only spent countless hours with me in the studio bringing my vision to life on stage, but also supported me creatively and emotionally during moments when I doubted myself. Creating this dance theatre piece together with them has been an incredibly meaningful and joyful experience.

I would also like to thank Julia-Kira Hoffmann for composing and performing an original song for this production.

Finally, I want to thank Cécile Lehner and Audrey Moreno for providing me with rehearsal spaces at Dance Gallery and the Chibu-Studio.

I could not have realized this project on my own.

Thank you.

Jana Benninger - "Coming Home"

COMING HOME is a dance theatre piece about performance culture in a world where the body is constantly expected to be visible, judged, and functional.

Repetition, exhaustion, and self-staging shape the beginning of the work, revealing how movement itself can become a commodity and an expectation. Between music, silence, and looping sequences, the dancers move through states of control, comparison, and alienation from their own bodies.

What is performance? Where does it begin — and when does it truly end?

The dancers’ decision not to bow at the end of the piece is a conscious refusal of the moment of evaluation.

Personal Shoutout:

Tommy Käch — for the support both inside and outside the studio.

Yin Yang Tanzstudio — for providing the studio space for rehearsals and creative work.

Carmen Ritchie - "Liminal"

Liminal explores the experience of transition — that isolating and often disorienting space between what was and what is yet to come. Through tap dance, the choreography captures the discomfort of being suspended in the uncertainty of life’s unavoidable transitions.

The narrative follows a journey from a place of safety and predictability into a world shaped by doubt. As the dancers navigate this in-between space, rhythms and repetition reflect the frustration, restlessness, and overthinking that often accompany moments of uncertainty.

The piece seeks to transform this feeling of isolation into a shared human experience, revealing a deeper connection within our collective state of becoming. Ultimately, the energy of the work shifts toward a hopeful resolution, recognizing the beauty and meaning that can emerge from periods of transition.

Personal Shoutout:

A special thank you goes to Fabian Schneider for his additional support throughout the creation of this dance theatre project, and especially for his work on the music production.

Elina Guex & Maria Troller - "Trapped in Paranoia"

Trapped in Paranoia portrays the endless cycle of paranoia through the perspective of someone living with it. The dance theatre piece moves through different emotional stages: the onset of paranoia, the struggle against it, the desperation of being unable to break free from the cycle, and finally the acceptance that it may all begin again.

Through movement and expression, the work gives physical form to the inner conflicts, fears, and thoughts experienced by a paranoid person. The choreography reveals the emotional fragmentation and psychological tension of living in this state, allowing the audience to viscerally experience the impact of paranoia.

Personal Shoutout:

A special thank you goes to all the dancers who supported us throughout this process and brought this dance theatre piece to life with their talent. Without your trust, dedication, and passion, this would not have been possible.
